- Volunteer with Pierce Conservation District from 10:30 AM - 12 PM on Saturday, February 8th, at Meeker Creek in Puyallup. Activities include caring for existing plantings, mulching and removing invasive species such as Himalayan blackberry and Canadian thistle. This streamside habitat supports water quality, local wildlife (like salmon!), and our important pollinators. Exact meeting location will be provided after signing up.
- While the exact tasks at hand vary, our projects focus on improving the open spaces, forests, and parks in our local cities. Healthy ecosystems and thriving forests are vital to our community because they absorb and naturally filter rain water, produce clean oxygen, provide living spaces for wildlife, and create a place for people to connect with the outdoors.
- Removing invasive species of plants, such as Canadian thistle & Himalayan blackberry
- Caring for existing and previous plantings
- Clothing that can get dirty
- Long pants and sleeves
- Sturdy shoes (closed toed shoes required, no sandals or flats)
- Rain gear and warm layers (the event will happen rain or shine)
- Full water bottle!

The Pierce Conservation District works with the community to improve water quality, promote sustainable agriculture, create thriving habitat, and build a just and healthy food system for all, through education, community engagement, and financial and technical assistance. Our district’s roots run deep in our community. Created in 1949 as part of a national response to the ecological disaster of the 1930s known as the Dust Bowl, we have worked for over 75-years to help local farmers, cities, and citizens address numerous sustainability challenges. Conserving our natural resources for future generations gets more difficult with each year, making the work of Pierce Conservation District more important now than ever.
