ORGANIZATION: Gentiva Hospice

Companion - Music - Pet Therapy - Reiki - Knitting - Sewing - Administrative

If you have an hour or more per week to give, Gentiva Hospice welcomes your gifts of time and and compassion. Whether you choose to work directly with patients or volunteer in one of many other ways, you can make a profound difference in someone's life, including your own. Volunteers are an integral part of the hospice team.

Volunteers provide emotional support and practical assistance that enhances the comfort and quality of life for patients, their families and loved ones. These services can include being available for companionship, listening or simply "being there" for a patient, as well as running errands and preparing meals.

Hospice volunteers often say their experience is personally rewarding and emotinally meaningful to help those in need at a critical point in their lives. Your volunteer work is significant and can make a positive impact on the quality of others' lives.

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Administrative Volunteers provide assistance in the hospice office or with hospice activities.
  • Companionship Volunteers work directly with patients providing companionship, reading to patients, watching TV/movies, offering a gentle touch or sharing a quiet moment.
  • Reiki Practitioners serve our end-of-life population by finding comfort, relaxation and peace during their final time with us. Reiki Certification is required.
  • Pet Therapy Volunteers provide companionship with their registered therapy dog. Pets must be registered with a recognized organization.
  • Music Volunteers specialize in sharing songs or instumental music with our patients and their loved ones.
  • Craft Volunteers touch patients in a special way by making lap blankets, Tactile blankets, shawls, sleeves, and memory bears/pillows.
  • Bereavement Volunteers offer support to the families of patients who have passed. They often make phone calls to check up on family members and send cards of comfort and care.

We support a wide area, and visits would be set up convenient to you.
