Greene County Volunteers Sought for Adult English Classes

In November of this year, a small handful of adult English language learners in Greene County started attending a no-cost English language class at the YMCA in Coxsackie, and some students in Catskill were matched with individual tutors, but Literacy Connections of the Hudson Valley still has much more work to do in Greene County to serve the needs of adult learners in the community.

New volunteers are being sought in Greene County. No prior teaching experience or foreign language is required to volunteer. Literacy Connections provides training and resources so that anyone with a love of language and a desire to help others can participate. New volunteers must attend an orientation session, and then complete an online training component over the course of three weeks before volunteering.

An orientation session will be held on Wednesday, January 22 nd, 2025 from 6-8 pm at the First Reformed Church, 310 Main Street in Catskill.

If you would like to attend either orientation, please contact Literacy Connections to register.

For anyone who would like to attend the classes as a student, registrations are open now by appointment. Please contact Heatherlyn Martin, the area coordinator for Columbia and Greene Counties, email in any language to: colgreene@literacyconnections.org or call 518-828-1792 ext 104. Literacy Connections of the Hudson Valley is on the web at www.literacyconnections.org .

Literacy Connections’ Columbia and Greene County Office is located in the basement of the Hudson Area Library (Galvan Armory), in Hudson NY. Regular hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 am to 5 pm, and Wednesdays 1-8 pm. Literacy Connections programs are funded in part by NYSED, the Dyson Foundation and the generosity of sponsors and contributors from our community. This program is funded in part by Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.
