Volunteer Job Description: Program Coordinator
Location: The Premier on Woodfair Apartments
Position Overview:
The Program Coordinator is a volunteer role that plays a vital part in providing social services to the residents of The Premier on Woodfair Apartments. The Coordinator will oversee the daily operations of the food pantry, assist with ESL and GED classes, connect residents with community referrals and resources, and provide employment assistance. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about community service and skilled in program coordination and relationship-building.
Responsibilities:
Food Pantry Management:
- Oversee the operations of the on-site food pantry, including inventory tracking, scheduling distribution days, and ensuring compliance with food safety guidelines.
- Coordinate with donors and the Houston Food Bank to maintain adequate food supplies.
- Manage a team of volunteers to support food pantry activities.
ESL and GED Class Support:
- Assist in organizing and facilitating ESL and GED preparation classes.
- Provide logistical support, including scheduling classes, securing materials, and managing participant registration.
- Work with instructors to address any resident needs or challenges.
Community Referrals and Resources:
- Connect residents with local community resources, such as childcare, healthcare, transportation, and counseling services.
- Maintain an up-to-date database of local resources and referral contacts.
- Provide one-on-one support to residents to help them navigate available services.
Employment Assistance:
- Offer job search support, including resume writing, interview preparation, and access to job listings.
- Coordinate workshops or seminars on vocational training, financial literacy, and career development.
- Collaborate with local businesses and organizations to identify employment opportunities for residents.
General Program Coordination:
- Maintain records of program activities, attendance, and outcomes to evaluate impact.
- Communicate regularly with Cornerstone Family Resource Center staff to provide updates and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all residents participating in services.
Qualifications:
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Experience in social services, education, or community engagement preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Passion for serving diverse populations and creating positive community impact.
Commitment:
This is a volunteer position requiring upto 16 hours per week. Flexibility is available, but some evening or weekend availability may be needed based on program schedules.
