Position Overview
We are seeking compassionate, dedicated, and empathetic retired seniors to serve as Hospice Volunteers, providing valuable support to individuals in hospice care and their families. This role is perfect for individuals who want to give back to the community and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in end-of-life care. Hospice Volunteers assist with emotional support, companionship, and practical help, enhancing the quality of life for both patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Companionship: Spend time with patients by reading, talking, or simply providing a comforting presence. Engage in activities such as crafts, listening to music, or helping patients reminisce about their lives.
- Emotional Support: Provide support and encouragement to patients and their families, offering a friendly and empathetic ear.
- Family Support: Assist families with non-medical needs, such as running errands, preparing light meals, or offering respite care so that caregivers can take a break.
- Assisting with Comfort: Help patients with non-medical tasks, such as repositioning, light housekeeping, or keeping them company during medical visits or treatments.
- Administrative Assistance: Assist with organizing materials, preparing care packages, or other light administrative duties that support hospice staff.
- Training and Development: Participate in required training and orientations to ensure understanding of hospice care principles, confidentiality, and boundaries.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: Previous experience in caregiving or working with elderly individuals is a plus, but not required. A passion for helping others is essential.
- Compassion & Empathy: A caring nature with the ability to listen, offer emotional support, and be present during difficult times.
- Reliability: Consistency and punctuality are important in providing steady, dependable support to patients and families.
- Physical Ability: Ability to assist with light tasks like lifting and helping patients in and out of bed or chairs, if needed.
- Confidentiality: Ability to respect patient and family privacy, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to interact with patients, families, and hospice staff in a sensitive and respectful manner.
