- Join Pierce Conservation District's Habitat Team as we kick 2025 off with our first planting of the year at South Prairie Creek Preserve on Saturday, January 25th, from 9 AM - 12 PM. Tree planting is a critical component in salmon habitat restoration. Trees are a source of large woody debris for waterways, diversify hydrology, provide shade and refuge for salmonids, and they also prevent erosion along streambanks. (We may also tackle a patch of blackberry while we are at it). With your help, we can work toward creating healthier habitat for salmon and other local wildlife!
- Uneven terrain, wet and/or muddy ground.
- Parking is limited . Please try to carpool with others in your party, if possible.
- A porta potty is available just a few minutes from the site.
- Dress for success - Please check the weather the morning off and dress accordingly:
- Layers are encouraged (long pants and sleeves)
- Close-toed, water-resistant shoes (rainboots work swimmingly)
- Rain jacket
- Full water bottle
- Personal gloves and tools
- PCD will have ample loaner tools and gloves available, but you may bring your own gloves/tools if you wish.

Description
The Pierce Conservation District works with the community to improve water quality, promote sustainable agriculture, create thriving habitat, and build a just and healthy food system for all, through education, community engagement, and financial and technical assistance. Our district’s roots run deep in our community. Created in 1949 as part of a national response to the ecological disaster of the 1930s known as the Dust Bowl, we have worked for over 75-years to help local farmers, cities, and citizens address numerous sustainability challenges. Conserving our natural resources for future generations gets more difficult with each year, making the work of Pierce Conservation District more important now than ever.
