- Help Pierce Conservation District honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by enhancing our community green spaces from 9 AM - 12 PM on Monday, January 20th! Spend 3 hours building community and improving habitat at one of our local restoration sites. Volunteer stewardship efforts provide critical support to local wildlife, pollinators, and water quality by removing invasive vegetation and caring for native plants.
- Bradley Lake Park (Puyallup)
- Nelson Nature Park (Edgewood)
- Waughop Lake (Lakewood)
- While the exact tasks at hand vary, our projects focus on improving the open spaces, forests, and parks in our local cities. Healthy ecosystems and thriving forests are vital to our community because they absorb and naturally filter rain water, produce clean oxygen, provide living spaces for wildlife, and create a place for people to connect with the outdoors.
- Planting native trees and shrubs
- Removing invasive species of plants, such as Reed Canary Grass, Himalayan Blackberry, English Ivy, etc..
- Caring for existing and previous plantings and spreading mulch to mitigate the growth of unwanted vegetation.
- Clothing that can get dirty
- Long pants and sleeves
- Sturdy shoes (closed toed shoes required, no sandals or flats)
- Rain gear and warm layers (the event will happen rain or shine)
- Full water bottle!

Description
The Pierce Conservation District works with the community to improve water quality, promote sustainable agriculture, create thriving habitat, and build a just and healthy food system for all, through education, community engagement, and financial and technical assistance. Our district’s roots run deep in our community. Created in 1949 as part of a national response to the ecological disaster of the 1930s known as the Dust Bowl, we have worked for over 75-years to help local farmers, cities, and citizens address numerous sustainability challenges. Conserving our natural resources for future generations gets more difficult with each year, making the work of Pierce Conservation District more important now than ever.
