As a Direct Patient Volunteer in Hospice Care, you will provide compassionate support to patients and families during one of life's most meaningful journeys. Your role involves offering emotional companionship, comfort, and non-medical assistance to individuals facing terminal illness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Spend time with patients by reading, talking, or simply being a comforting presence
- Engage in light activities such as playing music, doing crafts or sharing hobbies
- Provide brief respite for family caregivers, allowing them to take breaks
- Assist with Legacy Projects as needed (tangible memories of the patient for the family members after the patient passes)
Qualifications:
- a caring heart, good listening skills and reliable commitment to scheduled visits
- willingness to complete required training to understand hospice philosophy and care
- must respect confidentiality and boundaries while being emotionally present
- willingness to complete required documentation in a timely manner after patient visits are completed
Time Commitment:
Typically, volunteers commit to a few hours per week/every other week, with schedules customized to meet your availability and patient needs.
