Description of Duties: Volunteer is responsible for providing visitor information at public information areas, e.g., Carlsbad Caverns Visitor Information front desk area and on the exhibit floor, Underground Desk located in the cavern. Operation tasks include greeting park visitors and providing information on cultural, historical, and natural points of interest in the area and throughout the park. Knowledge of park resources will be necessary in work assignments. Some knowledge of local area will be necessary to answer questions. Volunteer will assist in answering telephone inquiries regarding the park. Volunteer may be assigned routine housekeeping tasks associated with the exhibits at the Visitor Center Bldg., e.g., dusting exhibits, cleaning glass or exhibit cases. Volunteer may be assigned office duties, e.g., photocopying, maintaining, stocking, answering phone at the front desk. Volunteer may be assigned project time associated with the Division of Interpretation and Education and the park, e.g., park library and/or other training/educational means. Other duties as assigned.

The volunteer will wear the VIP uniform.

· Provide efficient, courteous services, and helpful information to park visitors

Knowledge/Skills/Experience Desired:

· Excellent oral communication skills

· Knowledge of local area and resources helpful

· General knowledge of cavern history

· General knowledge of natural sciences for primary and secondary levels

Special Requirements:

Volunteer will need to spend a major portion of work time standing and/or walking while providing information services.

Special provisions

Volunteer may ride the employee shuttle for free if he/she volunteers the full 9 hours
