Job Overview
The Volunteer Experience Manager at Hand Over Hand ensures a rewarding journey for volunteers, from onboarding to ongoing engagement, in collaboration with the Volunteer Recruitment & Onboarding Manager. This role, which is part of the Executive Team, focuses on enhancing volunteer satisfaction through both online and in-person activities, aiming to boost volunteer engagement and retention, and motivate them to advocate for and uphold the organization's mission.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Deliver top-quality service and programs to volunteers for the best possible experience.
- Develop creative volunteer experience initiatives, including engagement activities, buddy/mentorship touch points, social events, milestone gifts, gifts (i.e., pins for years of service with HOH), etc.
- Create and execute volunteer retention initiatives and programs to drive continuity and streamline program operations. (e.g., knowledge retention)
- Develop metrics to evaluate volunteer engagement and retention, analyze trends, and inform strategic decisions.
- Partner with other team members to promote and show support for active volunteers such as a "Volunteer of the Month" program on social media.
- Research and apply for Volunteer Awards within the community.
- Maintain positive relationships with volunteers, members, and community partners.
- Act as an ambassador for HOH and advocate for our community.
- Gather feedback to enhance the overall volunteer experience.
- Assist the Volunteer Recruitment and Onboarding Manager with volunteer sourcing, screening, onboarding, and training activities as required.
Qualifications
- Creative, solution-oriented, self-starter passionate about engagement and volunteer management.
- Able to navigate and manage various volunteer interactions, including performance reviews.
- Knowledge of strategic talent engagement, development, and retention program development.
- Organized, detail-oriented, task-focused, and self-directed.
- Experience working with non-profit organizations and/or volunteer management is an asset.
- Proficient in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, etc.).
- Experience in group coordination and working with diverse people and organizations.
- Comfortable managing work under pressure and adapt on the fly.
- Proficient communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Awareness and understanding of the disability community.
- Preferred: experience working with people with disabilities (some training is provided prior to start of volunteer work)
- Preferred: understanding of universal design principles and how to adapt programming to make it more accessible and inclusive.
Commitment
- Minimum commitment: 2 fiscal years (October - September).
- Average weekly commitment: 2 hours.
- Executive team typically works evenings and weekends.
- Required to attend in-person events (in and around York Region/GTA).

Hand Over Hand is a nonprofit organization that creates safe, accessible spaces with and for the disability community.
Description
Hand Over Hand was started as a high school club in 2005 to bring awareness about disabilities to the community, and has grown into a nonprofit organization under the Government of Ontario. From the beginning, our values include peer-driven programs, youth engagement, and community accessibility. Since then, we've launched four programs with and for people in York Region and Toronto who have disabilities, and remain volunteer-run to this day. Our team is proud of our partners who empower our members, our volunteers who are dedicated allies, and our members with disabilities who help our community understand what safe spaces looks like!
