Joyful Readers is excited to partake in this year's Martin Luther King Jr., National Day of Service and invites YOU to lend a helping hand! For the past 25 years, more than 700,000 volunteers have honored Dr. King’s legacy by participating in community service projects throughout the country. This year, we're hosting an MLK Day of Service at John Moffet Elementary School in the South Kensington section of Philadelphia.
Together we'll support the students and families of Moffet by leading a literacy-themed carnival for children in the community and completing a variety of service projects, from painting murals, assembling take-home literacy kits, and organizing classroom spaces.
Day of Service Schedule:
8:30 am - Volunteer Check-in
9:00 am - Opening Ceremony
9:15 am - Service Begins
12:00 pm - Lunch is served
1:00 pm - Service Concludes
Please note that our volunteer opportunities for MLK Day are only open to adults and teenagers 14 years of age or older. If you'd like to bring your younger children with you, they're welcome to participate in the literacy-themed carnival. All volunteers must register themselves individually to participate. Don't delay - spots will fill up fast!
