VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTION
As a Grant writer, you will be responsible for developing and writing grant proposals to grant-making organizations and will persuasively communicate BLFA’s mission and programs to potential funders.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop/write grant proposals to foundations and grant-making organizations,
persuasively communicating organization’s mission and programs to potential funders - Assemble/submit grant requests, including letters, proposals, budgets, and presentations.
- Conduct prospect research, collecting data and writing for each grant.
- Report progress in grant research, grant submission and outcome to the Program
Director. - Manage the proposal submission process to ensure timely submission of all required
materials. - Develops and maintains a proposal calendar.
- Coordinate and follow up on the progress of submitted proposals.
SKILL SET AND EXPERIENCE:
- 1-3 years experience doing grant related work and applications to seek funding for non-
profit projects - Possess good organizational skills with keen attention to detail
- Ability to work and coordinate multiple projects and deadlines
- Skilled technical writing, proof-reading, editing, copywriting, grant writing or equivalent
written communication format - Ability to communicate fluently in English, both verbally and written

BLFA focuses on three core areas:
- Community Uplift: Providing education, training, and skill-building initiatives that enable individuals to thrive independently.
- Essential Needs Support: Delivering immediate relief through programs designed to address urgent and ongoing challenges.
- Support for Francophones of African Descent (Soutien aux Afrodescendants Francophones): Addressing service access gaps for Francophones of African descent by overcoming language and cultural barriers to support integration into Canadian society.
