Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound is looking for caring adult mentors to join our new Lunch Buddies program at Stanley Elementary School in Tacoma’s Hilltop neighborhood.
We are currently seeking volunteers available to mentor every other Tuesday at 11am at Stanley Elementary School in Tacoma.
Lunch Buddies is a midday, hour-long mentoring program where volunteers are matched one-to-one with a first-grade student. Twice a month, mentors visit Stanley Elementary during the school day to share lunch, conversation, and connection with their mentee.
While college may seem far away to a first grader, research shows that early mentoring relationships are powerful predictors of long-term success. Mentorship at this age helps build resilience, confidence, and a sense of belonging-key ingredients for thriving in school and life.
Through the simple act of sharing a meal, Lunch Buddies creates a comfortable and fun space for kids to get to know a trusted adult. Over time, these shared lunches become shared memories-the foundation of a strong, lasting relationship that can make a BIG difference.
The program runs during the school year (September-June), with mentors meeting their mentees twice a month during the student’s lunch period.
Your focus as a mentor will be to show up consistently, listen with care, and be a positive presence in a child’s life. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound and Stanley Elementary are here to support you every step of the way.
