Prep food for students in Baltimore
ORGANIZATION: Weekend Backpacks
Please visit the new page to apply.
Our mission is to improve the lives of students affected by food insecurity in Baltimore by delivering bags of nutritious and child-friendly food to schools weekly.
During prepping, volunteers will assist in getting food ready to be packed. The most common need is for the fruit cups, four of which need to be placed in ziploc bags before they can go in the bigger bags of food. The prepping work is less physically demanding than the packing of the actual bags and can easily be done seated.

Mission Statement
The mission of Weekend Backpacks is to improve the lives of students affected by food insecurity in Baltimore. We envision that all students are nourished and ready to learn.
Description
All Baltimore City schoolchildren are provided a free breakfast and lunch on school days. However, those experiencing food insecurity face the weekend without that same reliable access to food. Weekend Backpacks aims to bridge this gap by providing nutritious, child-friendly food to students and their families for the weekends.
