The Guard Station is located in the Gros Ventre area, which is well-known for it's stunning geologic features, wildlife viewing, and recreational opportunities. Primary duties of this position include: Greeting visitors to the station and answering any questions about the area, welcoming Forest Service staff and partners (such as trail crews), and patrolling the Upper Gros Ventre area using a side by side. Couples are encouraged to apply.
The Guard Station is approximately 35 miles from downtown Jackson, and is a main outpost for visitors heading into the Upper Gros Ventre River Drainage. It is located in a remote setting; the closest services, including groceries, are available in Jackson, WY. The Guard Station is reached via a dirt road that can become muddy and even impassable at times. The Guard Station includes the main guard station, a barn, and a garage. There is a bathroom, two bedrooms, living area and kitchen along with running water and electricity. The Station is nearly 100 years old and as such, volunteers will need to be handy with repairing plumbing, electrical, and other maintenance issues that might arise.
