Teton Pass & Mosquito Creek Ambassador
ORGANIZATION: USDA Forest Service
Please visit the new page to apply.
We are recruiting a Volunteer Ambassador who would work in coordination with district recreation staff to help provide information and education to the public, specifically in the Teton Pass, Fall Creek, and Mosquito Creek area(s). Ideally, we are looking to recruit a volunteer local to Teton County who can volunteer 3-5 days per week (20-40hrs/wk).
Due to the popularity and high volume of visitation in the areas mentioned above, the Jackson Ranger District would like to increase their outreach presence. An ambassador would have an in-person presence to emphasize rules and regulations, keep an eye on facilities, and provide the public with better service. Other duties include collecting and communicating information on trails, trailhead conditions, facility conditions, signage, proper food storage in bear country, extinguishing campfires, and providing safety information to a forest service point of contact or supervisor as appropriate. Raising awareness about bear safety will be a critical messaging component of this position (i.e. carrying bear spray and sharing information on how to avoid adverse encounters).
Additionally, the Fall Creek Area is an amazing location on the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Southwest of the town of Jackson, the area is full of natural beauty. There are many hiking, biking, and motorcycle opportunities in this area as well as great wildlife viewing and dispersed camping. This area has seen an increase in pressure as people look for camping opportunities around Jackson. This location is near to Mosquito Creek, another popular dispersed camping and recreation area.
