Washington State Opportunity Scholarship envisions a Washington where all residents have access to our state’s best jobs, and our companies have the diverse, local talent they need to innovate for the world. We offer financial aid, mentorship opportunities, and career training to holistically support Opportunity Scholars as they build their pathway to a high-demand career. Nearly 10,000 Opportunity Scholars have graduated with degrees into high-demand fields.
Help select the next cohort of Opportunity Scholars for the Baccalaureate Scholarship! As an essay reviewer, you’ll score essays from applicants to help select the next cohort of scholars. You will be provided with a rubric and training on how to score responses via an online portal. You will need access to a computer and reliable internet to complete this opportunity.
Sign up deadline: February 13, 2025
Volunteer period: February 28 - March 14, 2025
Time Commitment: 3-4 hours (flexible during the review period and can be completed over multiple days)
Location: Virtual. While our program focuses on scholars in Washington State, we welcome volunteers from outside of Washington.

Description
Washington has one of the fastest growing state economies with more STEM and health care jobs than we can fill. WSOS aims to connect our state’s leading industries with top Washington talent by reducing barriers to education and training and facilitating entry into high-demand careers for Washington students.
Working collaboratively with state and industry partners, we launch low- and middle-income students into careers, maximizing the return on investment for the state and ensuring our state’s robust economy can continue to thrive. We achieve this by coupling flexible scholarship funding with student support services that include peer and industry mentorship.
