Grant Researcher/Writer - New Mexico

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

Welcome to Wild at one of America’s most premier federal lands- Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge! As a volunteer for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Grant Researchers will assist our Biology and Management Teams with finding, cataloging, and potentially drafting grants for Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in Central New Mexico.

Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge is the largest of the last remaining intact wetlands of the historic floodplains of the Rio Grande. A small group of staff work hard to re-create the processes of the river and provide food and rest for thousands of overwintering birds in what is now a world-famous nature tourism destination. Each year the Friends of the Bosque del Apache hosts a large festival (Festival of the Cranes) which draws about 6,000 visitors and spans multiple days.

Bosque del Apache strives to maintain a Queer/LGBTQA+ and BIPOC- friendly space and work environment. Working at this station requires the ability to work with and take direction from people of all ages, backgrounds, and personality types. Positive outlooks and flexibility are key to success at this large and active station.

We are seeking individuals to serve as a grant researcher and writer to start as soon as possible.

The Grant Researcher Position has flexibility in number of hours and days worked. The position can either be remote or onsite. If onsite, the selected individual must work at least 24 hours per week. The selected individual must provide their own computer/laptop. If living onsite, there is an opportunity to utilize a government furbished laptop after completing a background check.

Please list at least two volunteer or professional work references on your application.

About U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

Location:

5275 Leesburg Pike, MS: NWRS Visitor Services, Bailey’s Crossroads, VA 22041, US

Mission Statement

Working with others to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.

Description

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is the premier government agency dedicated to the conservation, protection, and enhancement of fish, wildlife and plants, and their habitats. We are the only agency in the federal government whose primary responsibility is the conservation and management of these important natural resources for the American public.

The agency includes both the National Wildlife Refuge System and the National Fish Hatchery System.

The Service's origins date back to 1871 when Congress established the U.S. Fish Commission to study the decrease in the nation’s food fishes and recommend ways to reverse that decline. (More on our history below.) Today, we are a diverse and largely decentralized organization, employing about 8,000 dedicated professionals working out of facilities across the country.
