ORGANIZATION: ADAPTIVE FUSION DRAGON BOAT CLUB

image_20241227175317

Adaptive Fusion is a dragon boat team in Long Beach that includes all types of people including some who are Deaf. Those of us who do not know ASL would love to have someone to interpret for us. Some of it is just social, but we also need people who are willing to get on the dragon boat (a large canoe with many people on it) to help our coaches explain techniques or drills to our Deaf teammates.

About ADAPTIVE FUSION DRAGON BOAT CLUB

Location:

Mothers Beach, 5839 Appian Way, Long Beach, CA 90802, US

Mission Statement

The purposes of Adaptive Fusion are to encourage and promote the benefits of dragon boat paddling and other beneficial and healthful physical activities among persons with disabilities, to educate the general public about the capabilities and accomplishments of persons with disabilities, to enhance the understanding and appreciation of the ancient sport of dragon boat racing and to educate support participants to advocate and find ways to accommodate and make accessible Dragon Boating to interested Para athletes.

Description

Dragon boating is a great sport for all people, but also for many people with challenges of various types (disabilities.) Fusion is thrilled to have started with paddlers who were blind or visually impaired and have now welcomed people who are Deaf, people who are amputees, people with PTSD, have anxiety or ADHD, and hope to welcome people with other challenges.

We train along with support paddlers at Mothers Beach in Long Beach and race locally, regionally, nationally, and worldwide. We are the three-time National Paradragon Champions and six-time medalists in the Club Crew World Championships.
