Volunteer Treasurer

ORGANIZATION: ANDES-AMAZON CONSERVANCY

The volunteer treasurer oversees the financial health and integrity of the organization, ensuring proper financial management, compliance with regulations, and accurate reporting. This role requires a commitment to AAC’s mission and collaboration with our international board of directors, vendors, contractors and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

Financial Management

  • Work with bookkeeper in maintenance of accurate and up-to-date financial records, including income, expenses, and assets.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for the board of directors.
  • Monitor the organization’s cash flow and recommend strategies to maintain financial stability.

Budgeting and Planning

  • Assist in developing the annual budget with input from ED, staff and board members.
  • Track actual performance against the budget and provide regular updates to the board.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with all financial, tax, and legal reporting requirements.
  • Work with bookkeeper and tax preparers to file tax documents (e.g., IRS Form 990).
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls and financial policies.

Banking and Fund Management

  • Manage the organization’s bank accounts and ensure proper reconciliation.
  • Approve or co-sign checks and authorize payments as per policy.
  • Oversee investments (if applicable) and advise on financial risks.

Board Support

  • Present financial information in a clear, understandable format at board meetings.
  • Provide financial guidance to help the board make informed decisions.
  • Support fundraising efforts by ensuring proper accounting for donations and grants.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with contract bookkeepers who manage day-to-day bookkeeping.
  • Coordinate with auditors, accountants, or financial consultants as needed.
  • Act as a point of contact for donors and funding agencies on financial matters.
