About Us
finEQUITY.org is a nonprofit startup leveraging tech-enabled tools to promote financial empowerment. Our mission is to accelerate the prison-to-prosperity pipeline, addressing the financial toll incarceration places on low-income families. We help justice-impacted individuals fill financial voids, build credit histories, and access anti-usury financial services.
Your Role
We are seeking experienced volunteer User Researchers to lead critical projects aimed at improving our online financial health services. Your work will focus on gathering deep insights into participant experiences to inform service improvements and future program development.
Commitment:
- 5+ hours per week during December and January.
- Flexible, fully remote.
What You’ll Do:
- Conduct user research (interviews, surveys, usability testing) to evaluate and enhance participant experiences.
- Analyze findings and translate insights into clear, actionable recommendations for improving program engagement and usability.
Qualifications
Required:
- Proven experience conducting user research (interviews, surveys, usability testing, journey mapping, A/B testing).
- Strong analytical skills: ability to synthesize research findings into impactful recommendations.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to engage diverse participants respectfully and professionally.
Preferred:
- Experience with research tools like Google Forms, Typeform, or similar platforms.
- Background in human-centered design/ behavioral research

Established in 2019, our mission is to help those who have been impacted by long-term incarceration, mass incarceration and financial exclusion build their credit profiles as part of their reentry journey.
Description
finEQUITY.org is a community sourced tech-nonprofit focused on the financial health of families in spite of incarceration. Our vision is to build tools and services to further a prison-to-prosperity pipeline. We advance the financial futures of community members or heads of the household who have been impacted by lengthy incarceration. We unlock access to financial health, and in particular, affordable apartments, transportation, utilities, cell phones and financial services such as banking, credit and savings. We do this by offering free, virtual, and easy access to credit and debt information, a free micro-loan program to establish credit, as well as a free in-prison program that teaches participants about finances and its impact upon release from a prison facility.
