We are thrilled to invite you to join MEDA’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program! This is your chance to make a meaningful impact in our community by helping individuals and families prepare their taxes and claim vital refunds that enhance financial stability.
Thanks to the dedication of volunteers like you, MEDA has returned over $6 million to our local community through free tax preparation services in past years. These efforts empower families and strengthen the community as a whole.
This tax season, we aim to build on that success-and we’d love for you to be part of this impactful journey. Together, we can create positive change, one tax return at a time.
How to get Involved? You can join us by signing up for one of MEDA’s VITA Tax Preparer Training sessions in January or by opting for the self-paced workshop. During these sessions, you’ll receive training to assist low-to-moderate-income families with their tax returns.
Spread the word & share this information to any one who would be interested in being part of this!
As a volunteer, you’ll join thousands nationwide who help prepare millions of tax returns each year. Currently, we are offering opportunities for Basic/Advanced Volunteer Tax Preparers.
Please Note:
Successful completion of Basic Training Part I and II is required to volunteer as a Basic Tax Preparer.
Upcoming In person VITA Tax Preparer Training Dates:
Each session will culminate with a test to become certified as a Tax Preparer. (Attendance is only required at one training or until you’re able to become certified) there's also a self paced option if these times do not work for you.

Mission Statement
The mission of MEDA is to achieve economic justice for San Francisco's low- to moderate-income Latino families through asset development. Asset Development is the process of encouraging and supporting individuals and families to develop, accumulate and manage personal, social and material (especially financial) assets. In the long-term, we envision generations of Latino families that are a part of vibrant, diverse, proud and forward-thinking communities in which residents own their homes and businesses, and are actively engaged in the civic life of their neighborhoods and the institutions that affect their lives. We see these families as having sufficient assets to provide them and future generations with the opportunity to call San Francisco their permanent home.
Description
MEDA is a community-based, local economic development corporation located in the Mission District of San Francisco. For over 40 years MEDA has worked to improve economic and social conditions in the neighborhood by stimulating investment, enhancing the business environment, and creating jobs for area residents. MEDA is committed to maintaining the cultural identity and resources of the Mission District.
MEDA recently launched The Mission Promise Neighborhood, a five year neighborhood initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Education to bring together local nonprofits, public and private partners to work with kids and families to empower the Mission community, break cycles of poverty, and ensure every child can reach their full potential, from cradle to college to career.
