Overview

Breeze Hospice is seeking professional, compassionate, and dedicated Volunteers to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support to the hospice team and an invaluable service to patients and their families. Volunteers are an integral part of the hospice philosophy and to the interdisciplinary team. Volunteers work closely with clinical staff, administrative staff and the volunteer coordinator to ensure that our patients receive compassionate care and attention. This position is ideal for individuals looking to make a positive impact in the community those seeking valuable experience in the healthcare field, and those who have personal experiences with hospice care.

Encouraged to bring your skills and experiences that may add to satisfaction of patient care. Skills such as art, music, writing, pet therapy, notary public, cooking, data-entry, filing, copying, etc., may be helpful.

This is a volunteer position; it is not a paid position. Volunteers are employees of Breeze Hospice of Missouri and must meet all organizational requirements for hire.

Responsibilities

  • Includes direct patient care hours, bereavement support hours, or administrative hours
  • Monitor and document patient conditions, reporting any changes to the healthcare team
  • Provide support in hospice care settings, ensuring comfort and dignity for patients and their families
  • Engage with patients experiencing life-limiting illnesses by offering tailored support and companionship
  • Assist with bereavement calls, letters, in-person visits
  • Create individualized care plans, schedule visits with patients
  • Complete duties within chosen domain of hospice volunteering (direct care, bereavement, or administrative)
  • Proper documentation of patient care at each visit

Requirements

  • Complete application process, including, interview and background check
  • Complete required onboarding, orientation, and training
  • Participate in staff meetings, groups, trainings
  • Maintain open communication with, and report to volunteer coordinator

Qualifications
While prior volunteer experience is not mandatory, the following skills are highly valued:

  • Experience in hospice care, caregiving, working with persons with disabilities is a plus, but is not necessary
