About SAFE HAVEN EQUINE WARRIORS INC

Location:

12565 INDIAN HILL DR, SYKESVILLE, MD 21784, US

Mission Statement

Safe Haven Equine Warriors (SHEW) is a Maryland-based nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the humane treatment of all equines. Our primary focus is to rescue, rehab, and re-home equines either suffering from abuse and neglect or those in imminent danger of slaughter, abuse, or neglect. We are committed to educating the public on responsible equine ownership and care, as well as the perils equines are facing in today’s society. Our guiding principle is that "There are no bad horses, just horses in bad situations--each deserving of a fair chance for a better life."

Description

Since our official inception in 2017, Safe Haven Equine Warriors (SHEW) has rescued over 50 horses and re-homed more than 40 horses through adoption and foster homes. Our home base is a small farm in Howard County, MD.

Sadly, our task is to rescue and provide the last act of kindness, humanely when recovery is not possible.

We acquire most horses coming into our rescue by outbidding kill buyers (meat men) at livestock auctions who purchase horses to be resold across the borders in Canada and Mexico for slaughter.

Each year over 50,000 American horses will end up on dinner plates in Germany, Italy, Japan, China, Switzerland, and Mexico. Most are healthy before starting the downward spiral through the virus-infected, injury-ridden cesspool of kill buyers, scam dealers, and auction houses. Once a horse is in the slaughterhouse pipeline, there is no return.

These horses will be slaughtered and processed for meat for human consumption overseas.
