The Low Vision Center provides specialized eye exams by low vision doctors to evaluate a person’s remaining vision and overall visual function to help maximize existing vision - often with the use of prescribed optical devices. This opportunity is needed to help the staff in the dispensary with the administrative and customer service responsibilities of the department.
Position:Low Vision Dispensary Optical Assistant
Location: 250 West 64 th Street, 6 th Floor New York, NY 10023Job Summary: We are looking for candidates to support the staff of the Low Vision Optical Dispensary providing additional administrative and customer service support as needed. We seek bright, enthusiastic person(s) with strong desires to help our clients receive the best services.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Welcome patients to the dispensary and serve as a patient escort.
- Answering and making phones and directing patient/customer inquiries.
- Organizing and stock dispensary inventory.
- Use Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word to process patient information.
- Providing additional administrative and customer service support as needed.
- translation support if bilingual.
- Assisting patients with glasses and contact lenses.
- Logging and posting inventory supply list.
- Placing orders for glasses or contact lenses.
- Assisting opticians
Qualification:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Clear strong phone voice.
- Able to execute tasks and a willingness to learn.
- Knowledge of the Microsoft suite of products.
- Good customer service skills.
- College or graduate school enrollment for internship
- Retired volunteers with office skills.
- Flexible schedule.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Computer literate.
Details of the Opportunity: Candidates will receive training on the protocol for proper dispensary operations. This volunteer opportunity will begin as soon as possible and require 15 - 20 hours a week. A minimum 5 hours per day. Preferred days and time of service: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
Attire: Business/Business Casual (no jeans or sneakers)
