About Toby’s Hope for Canine Cancer Care
Toby’s Hope is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families and their beloved dogs navigate the challenges of canine cancer. We provide financial assistance for canine lymphoma treatments and resources to support caretakers throughout the journey. Our website (Wordpress) is a key tool for pet owners, donors, and volunteers, and we’re looking to improve its usability to better serve our growing community.
About the role
We’re looking for a volunteer UX designer who can help us take our website to the next level! Your work will help make our site more user-friendly, accessible, and engaging. Whether you're a student building your portfolio or an experienced designer looking to give back, we’d love to hear from you.
You’ll have the chance to evaluate our site, identify areas for improvement, and offer creative ideas to ensure our website reflects our mission and serves our audience effectively. This volunteer project is flexible and remote, with a target completion date of January 2025.
Key responsibilities
(You don’t need to check every box to reach out!)
Evaluate the website: Look at design, usability, accessibility, and how easy it is to navigate on different devices.
Spot accessibility barriers: Ensure our site meets basic standards like WCAG to create an inclusive experience for everyone.
Improve user experience: Help ensure pet owners, donors, and volunteers can quickly find what they need and take meaningful actions (e.g., donating, contacting us).
Boost SEO and engagement: Provide ideas to improve content, calls-to-action, and overall performance to help us reach more people.
Share your vision: Present your findings and suggestions in a clear, actionable way, including wireframes or mockups for areas that need a refresh.
What you’ll need
Some experience in UX/UI design (you don’t have to be an expert-we value creativity and enthusiasm!).
Familiarity with design tools like Figma or Adobe XD and basic knowledge of web platforms like WordPress.
Interest in accessibility and creating welcoming digital spaces for all users.
Passion for nonprofit work and a love for animals.
What you’ll get
A chance to make a real difference for dogs battling cancer and their families.
Hands-on experience with a meaningful nonprofit project to add to your portfolio.
Flexibility to work on your own schedule and remotely.
Collaboration with a small, passionate team working towards a shared goal.
Expected deliverables
A report outlining your findings, including a prioritized list of recommendations for website improvements.
Wireframes or mockups for key areas that need updates or redesigns.
Suggestions for tools, plugins, or integrations to enhance functionality.
Insights on improving accessibility, user flow, and engagement strategies.
Time commitment
Around 15-20 hours total, to be completed by January 31, 2025.
How to apply
Interested? Please answer our application questions. We will contact you to setup a short Zoom meeting to discuss your interest, experience, and availability.
We can’t wait to work with someone who shares our passion for helping dogs and their families. Your skills can make a big impact!

Mission Statement
Toby’s Hope for Canine Cancer Care will provide financial assistance to those in need (WA State only) for canine cancer treatment and diagnosis, and resources to support owners and their families for managing new responsibilities of being a caretaker. Our focus is to support a dog and its family through the entire cancer journey from initial diagnosis to end of life. We believe that life is better with a dog in it and want to enable families to tackle cancer with a community behind them.
Description
We are a young organization, having just been founded in July 2024. Toby's Hope was started as a way to turn the journey that my dog, Toby, and I had with his lymphoma diagnosis in 2023 into a positive way to help others. Toby remains in remission and he inspires me every day to live life to the fullest and take what we have learned to help others on their cancer journey. We have a basic website up and running and before the end of 2024, hope to launch our first in person and virtual support groups. We are also focused on building out a more robust website, social media presence, finding partners interested in our cause and promoting us, as well as raising money so we can start provide financial assistance in 2025.
