Become a mentor for postsecondary students and empower their independence!
How do mentors make an impact?
Volunteer Mentors join us in the classroom to support a new hands-on approach to teaching and learning- one that helps neurodivergent and underserved students develop the skills and mindsets to develop independence and build positive connections.
Mentors build trusting relationships with students that are critical for their learning and growth, and in turn our students thrive while working with mentors that look like them, building confidence and bringing new context to their learning.
Mentors will commit to attending weekly classroom visits with students and are intentionally matched with students according to their skillsets, work experiences, classroom needs, and project needs.
What will you do?
Work with a classroom of neurodivergent students to complete an experience-based learning project which aims to educate students on food insecurity and empower them to make a difference in their community. This will be done through organizing a food drive and assembling care packages.
Connect real-world experiences and insight to classroom skills.
Encourage positive social interactions among students
Help students develop independent living skills and a sense of community by working on a project that addresses real-world problems.
Support students' independent living skills and collaborative problem-solving, and provide feedback on students' work.
Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that respects and values neurodiversity.
What is the commitment and training like?
Volunteers commit to attend weekly, (1) hour-long classroom sessions; 4-8 classroom sessions in total. Classroom sessions are Mondays and Tuesdays, 9-10 am.
