Paws for comfort - Pet therapy program - Qualifications, pets must be well-behaved and groomed, comfortable around strangers, received bedience training, have updated shot records and obtain a certificate of good health from a licensed veterinarian. The pet and owner will be interviewed by the volunteer coordinator and branch director at the hospice office.

Prior to assignment - Pet owners will complete the standard volunteer onboarding process, which includes a drug test, background check and 8 hours of orientation/training.

Ongoing requirements -The owner and pet must wear an Enhabit Home Health & Hospice name badge during all patient visits. Pets are leashed at all times and under constant owner supervision while on duty. Only owners are authorized to feed pets. Pets are clean, well-groomed and brushed frequently as needed. Pets must be at least one year old to participate and be spayed or neutered. All health costs for the pet, including the initial exam, are covered by the owner. Patients with open wounds must have wounds covered by a dressing when pet visits.
