Duties of the Treasurer
Keep historical financial records in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Directors, applicable laws, etc.
Review tax returns, contracts, invoices and/or any other legal documents which greatly affect the finances before a commitment is made to ensure there will be
sufficient funds to cover expenses or the legal ramifications of such documents are understood by the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors.
Update signature requirements as officer positions and other roles change.
Advise other committees and the Board on financial matters.
Consult with CPA, lawyer and/or Board to ensure appropriate records are kept to ensure the financial integrity of the organization and Federal and State rules and regulations are followed. Make changes to procedures on a timely basis as needed to be in compliance with all governing entities.

Keep up-to-date records as well as an audit trail for all transactions
Protect the organization against fraud and theft, ensuring safe custody of money, and prompt banking
Make sure the Board understands its financial obligations
Make sure the organization complies with tax regulations
Review all internal processes and reporting methods at least annually.
The treasurer has to do the banking, depositing cash and checks, paying the bills and tracking income and expenditure throughout the year. He/She needs to be on top of the finances so the organization knows how wen it is tracking against the budget and how to respond if unexpected problems arise.
If a bookkeeper is used to generate reports which will be used for annual reports and tax preparation, the Treasurer should talk with this person on a regular basis to ensure any discrepancies are resolved on a timely basis.
Travel once or twice per year for annual meetings and events is required. Expenses will be reimbursed by the organization.

Description
United Veterans Services (UVS) is a non-profit charitable organization with a goal of service to our United States Military Veterans. It was started in 1941 to help assist with civil defense efforts and has since been transformed into a service organization which attends to the needs of hospitalized veterans. Its motto "Build a Bridge of Service" is to bridge the gap between the community and our Veterans in VA Medical Centers. Funds for UVS are raised through antique shows, golf tournaments, donations and community activities.
