Teach English to Immigrants and Refugees - Holgate Library
ORGANIZATION: TORUS
Please visit the new page to apply.
We offer free drop-in English classes for adult learners of English at sites across the Portland metro area. Our classes are high energy and multi-level. We often have students from five or six different language backgrounds in a given class. As a teacher, our classes are challenging, rewarding, and a lot of fun.
You don’t need any background as an ESOL teacher to join our team. Torus offers a comprehensive training for aspiring teachers. But we also need volunteers to help our classes run smoothly.
Join us to:
Learn how to teach ESOL
Improve your teaching skills
Develop intercultural skills
Make new connections in your community
The first step is to visit a class to learn first hand what we’re all about. Contact us to get connected today!

Mission Statement
Torus bridges gaps between people and communities by facilitating transformative experiences of language and culture sharing.
Description
Torus was founded in 2020 by a refugee who was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, raised in Moscow, Russia, and lives in Portland, Oregon. Torus bridges gaps between people and communities by facilitating transformative experiences of language and culture exchange. We do this work through our seven programs. We believe in connectivity and a sense of belonging to a community for immigrants and refugees, as well as anyone who has been living in the US for generations.
