We Rock the Spectrum is a kids' gym that is specially designed for special needs kids. We run a half-day camp program on weekday mornings during Track 4 periods for year round schools, school holidays, teacher workdays, and summer. Volunteers will be assisting during our camp program. This entails playing and engaging with kids, working as a team with other staff members, and maintaining a positive and energetic attitude. Willingness to help when needed is imperative, as is confidence in ability to initiate play with children. Special needs children often exhibit challenging behaviors such as meltdowns (often mistaken as tantrums), physical and/or verbal aggression, eloping (running away/attempting to run away), having bathroom accidents in public areas, etc. It is not expected for volunteers to directly handle this behaviors head on, but volunteers must be able to voice to leadership that they need help when needed.
