Are you a techie and enjoy talking about computers? Become a Friendly Visitor for an Older Adult !
ORGANIZATION: Queens Community House
Please visit the new page to apply.
Queen Community House's Friendly Visiting Program matches homebound older adults with volunteers in their community, creating intergenerational relationships in Western, Central and Southeast Queens. The program aims to reduce isolation and loneliness amongst seniors in our neighborhoods and communities. Friendly visiting is an enriching opportunity for the volunteer to develop a meaningful friendship. Together, the older adult and volunteer can discuss shared interests, learn/teach new skills, read books, learn technology, and celebrate special holidays. We have a client who lives in Rego Park and would love a Friendly Visiting volunteer who can discuss computers and the latest gadgets. Our client is 87 years old and curious to see how the computer industry has evolved. Friendly visitors must be 18 and over, be open to committing to 6 months of volunteerism, and a background check is required to participate in the program. Volunteers can either call an older adult or do in-person visits upon approval. Email us at volunteer@qchnyc.org to learn more!

Description
Queens Community House (QCH) is a multi-site, multi-service settlement house that serves the diverse neighborhoods of Queens. We serve residents of all ages, races, faiths, and ethnicities while supporting the viability of the borough as a whole.
QCH was formed in 1975 (as Forest Hills Community House) to help heal the wounds of a neighborhood conflict. Over four decades, our reach and breadth have grown; today we offer a broad network of comprehensive services at 25 program sites in 11 different neighborhoods in Queens, allowing us to impact individuals, families, and entire communities.
