The park has compiled hundreds of sources for inclusion in the "Bound Volumes," compilations of sources that park staff, volunteers, and others use for research. Many of these sources are clippings from newspapers printed throughout the country, North and South, during the Civil War. Before these clippings can be included in the newest Bound Volumes, however, they must meet accessibility guidelines to ensure every person has equal opportunity to read them. However, some of the clippings are low quality or have become faded in time, making it difficult for software to read the text. The only solution to this problem is transcribing the source into a word document -- and we need your help!
Transcription volunteers will assist park staff in transcribing primary sources as assigned. Digital copies of the sources will be provided to volunteers and you can work on your transcription from the comfort of your home.
