Wekume, meaning "Protect Yourself" in Luganda, is a volunteer-driven startup initiative focused on improving reproductive health among university students in Uganda. Through its mobile app and various outreach efforts, Wekume provides access to essential reproductive health services, information, and anonymous consultations. As a startup in its initial stages, we depend on passionate individuals to support our mission of ensuring students make informed decisions about their health.

Role Overview:

The Social Worker will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and relevance of reproductive health information shared through Wekume’s platforms. They will also engage directly with students to address their questions and needs, fostering a supportive and informed community. This is a remote volunteer role, ideal for individuals passionate about reproductive health and education.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure Accurate and Current Information:
    • Regularly review and verify reproductive health information shared on the Wekume app, SafeChat, and social media.
    • Stay updated with the latest research, trends, and guidelines related to reproductive health.
    • Work with team members to integrate updates into content and outreach strategies.
  2. Respond to Inquiries:
    • Actively monitor and respond to student inquiries via Wekume’s SafeChat feature and social media platforms.
    • Provide empathetic, accurate, and clear information tailored to each individual’s needs.
    • Maintain confidentiality while addressing sensitive health concerns.
  3. Collaboration with Health Facilities:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with partner health facilities.
    • Facilitate communication and coordination between students and health services to ensure smooth service delivery.
  4. Team Updates:
    • Share newly acquired reproductive health information and trends with the team during regular updates.
    • Contribute insights and suggestions for improving content and outreach strategies.

Requirements:

  • A degree in a health-related field (e.g., Public Health, Nursing, Reproductive Health, Social Work).
  • Prior experience in reproductive health or community health is a strong advantage.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passionate about reproductive health education and advocacy.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to the dynamic needs of a startup.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a remote team setting.
