The Queens College Speech & Debate Society is the speech and debate program at Queens College. We will host an in-person college speech and debate at Queens College in Flushing, New York on Saturday, February 15, 2025.

The team is looking for volunteers to judge speech and debate rounds. Our upcoming speech and debate tournament will feature multiple rounds of International Public Debate (IPDA) and Individual Speech Events.

Training will be provided for those interested in judging speech and debate rounds!

I encourage you to visit our website at https://www.qcspeechsociety.com/ to learn more about who we are and what we will do.

You do not need previous experience in public speaking, debate, or acting to volunteer. Just email me, and I will be happy to accept you.

Our team will collaborate with several college speech and debate programs to facilitate additional volunteer judging opportunities at speech and debate tournaments throughout Fall 2024 and Spring 2025.

Thanks.

About Queens College Speech & Debate Society

Location:

65-30 Kissena Blvd, Student Union Room 319, Flushing, NY 11367, US

Mission Statement

The mission of our team will be one that recognizes the importance of forensics by shaping eloquent and intellectual public speakers. We will accomplish this by engaging in acts of public discourse, rhetorical criticism, persuasion, research, and oral interpretation. This is a unique student-run organization where team members can develop public speaking skills through dedication, practice, and participation. In addition to competing within intercollegiate speech competitions, the QCSS will seek to sponsor, organize, and run speech and debate tournaments, community service projects, and fundraising that are in the best interests of public speaking. We welcome all who share our core values to come visit us at the Student Union and take part this in wonderful new chapter for the Queens College Speech Society.

Description

This is an academic student organization. As such, the team offers skills to Queens College students that are necessary to confidently and effectively communicate in any situation. This activity teaches students to research, write, and deliver valuable messages in a wide range of topics. By participating in this program, members of the QCSS will follow current events, engage in critical and rhetorical discourse, immerse into a wide-array of fiction and non-fiction literature, and will master persuasion at various intercollegiate speech and debate tournaments.
