About ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE INC

Location:

424 Walnut St, LAWRENCEBURG, IN 47025, US

Mission Statement

To educate future and current generations about the ancient cultures of the tristate region through identification, preservation, and archaeological investigations of sites in this region.

Description

ARI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit institution dedicated to research into Native American sites in the Indiana-Ohio-Kentucky region. Located in Indiana, ARI operates offices and labs in Lawrenceburg, IN, and is currently supporting excavations at the Guard site, a nearby early Fort Ancient Village, near the mouth of the Great Miami River. These excavations are conducted under the supervision of professional archaeologists, and there are professional archaeologists with extensive experience in Fort Ancient studies on ARI’s board.

ARI was created by passionate local avocational and professional archaeologists that have witnessed the unfortunate destruction of many important and sacred prehistoric sites in the area. Sites that continue to be destroyed due to a lack of knowledge and appreciation of the rich and extensive history that exists in our region prior to colonial settlement. ARI’S passionate founding members felt that an organization that focused on providing educational opportunities to the public through hands-on experiences, literature, lectures, tours, a learning center, and other digital educational tools that an informed and appreciative community could be cultivated. Thereby resulting in better stewardship of our region’s cultural resources.
