Recruiting Organization: Fair Count
The Fair Count Democracy Ambassadors program is a grassroots initiative designed to empower individuals to become advocates for civic engagement and champions of fair democratic practices within their communities. This comprehensive program equips participants with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to drive positive change and foster a strong culture of civic participation.
As Democracy Ambassadors, participants will:
- Learn about Fair Count's mission and its role in strengthening pathways to greater civic participation.
- Gain an in-depth understanding of democratic principles and how to encourage community participation in civic processes.
- Acquire best practice skills for relational organizing, particularly in rural communities, through techniques such as one-on-one conversations, phone banking, and community events.
- Receive training to become community leaders, equipping them to train and educate others.
- Connect with neighbors using traditional outreach methods, teaching them about democracy and the importance of civic participation.
- Lead their neighborhoods in various civic engagement activities, including phone banking, text banking, canvassing, presentations, co-hosting community and faith events, attending local government meetings, and conducting one-on-one conversations with stakeholders.
By becoming a Democracy Ambassador, individuals gain access to valuable resources and training to facilitate democracy-related conversations and initiatives. They have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by fostering leadership, enhancing their resumes and interview responses, gaining hands-on experience in community engagement, and expanding their networks with like-minded influencers.
Moreover, Ambassadors will witness democracy and civic engagement in action from a local perspective, becoming more familiar and confident in engaging with democratic processes. They will receive coaching from experienced leaders in campaigns, community building, and civic engagement, and contribute to research by generating ideas to increase civic participation.
The program is open to individuals who have an interest in civic engagement activities, organizing within their communities, and learning about the three pillars of Fair Count's work: elections, the census, and redistricting.
