The Intern (Utility Systems Operator Helper) will assist journeyman operators in the efficient repair, maintenance, and operation of water treatment facilities and collection systems including lift stations, distribution systems, composting toilets, and comfort stations.
This position is located in the Utilities Branch, Division of Facilities Management and Engineering, Yosemite National Park. The Park is open to travel year-round and has a visitor load in excess of four million annually. Yosemite has one of the largest and most complex utility operations and infrastructure in the National Park Service, protecting park resources and providing vital and necessary service for park visitors and operations. Facilities include 22 wastewater treatment facilities, treating 270 million gallons of wastewater annually, 26 water systems, producing 278 million gallons of potable water annually and 5 backcountry compost toilets, removing about 14 tons of composted human waste annually.
The applicant may be assigned to work in any facility or location in Yosemite National Park. Applications will be considered on a year-round basis depending on the needs of our crews, with cohorts likely starting in April and October. All work will take place on-site at Yosemite National Park in California. Chosen candidates may be assigned to El Portal, Wawona, the Yosemite Valley, or the Backcountry Utilities team. Participants may be required to travel to carry out the requirements of assigned projects, particularly if assigned to Backcountry Utilities. Applicants outside of a reasonable commuting distance must be willing to relocate to the area in order to participate. Park housing may be available but is not guaranteed.

In addition, applicants must be willing to fulfill a minimum SkillBridge term of 20 weeks (24 weeks preferred). Yosemite is seeking candidates with a strong work ethic and serious interest in caring for our nation's resources. Applicants are not required to possess prior water/wastewater management experience but must demonstrate a willingness to work as a team, learn new skills, solve problems, and be mentored.
