Furnish an Apartment for a Refugee Family
ORGANIZATION: Idealist.org
Please visit the new page to apply.
Recruiting Organization: RefugeeOne
RefugeeOne secures a family’s first apartment, but your team can turn it into a home! We recommend forming an Apartment Furnishing Team of 5-10 friends or family members, with one designated as the Team Lead.
Refugees arrive in Chicago with few personal belongings. As an apartment furnishing team, you will:
- Source items by gathering the full list of furniture and household goods (new or gently used when acceptable).
- Set-up the apartment 1-3 days before the family arrives by cleaning, moving in the items you collected, and stocking 2-3 weeks of culturally appropriate groceries from a provided list.
Interested? Community Engagement Manager Kelli at cosponsor@refugeeone.org!
Requirements: Background check, orientation/training, and fundraising items to furnish 1 apartment.
Flexible scheduling to match your availability. This is a short-term project-based commitment. You will typically have 2-3 days to set up the apartment with the household goods and furniture you collected in the weeks prior.
