Volunteer Friendship Coordinator - $200/Month Stipend
**Program: The Friendship Squad
**Location: Remote/Virtual (NYC applicants have the option to meet
the executive director in person)
We are seeking a self-motivated and compassionate Friendship Coordinator to manage and grow The Friendship Squad, a peer-support program connecting volunteers with individuals facing mental health and/or substance use challenges. This is a results-focused role with a $200/month stipend for approximately 5-8 hours of work per week. However, the emphasis is on achieving measurable outcomes--recruiting participants, retaining engagement, and fostering meaningful relationships--rather than adhering to a set schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
● - Collaborate with the executive director to develop and oversee the
program, supporting the matching of **10-15 volunteers** with
participants to form lasting friendships.
● - Recruit, interview, and onboard volunteers, ensuring they are
well-suited for the program’s mission.
● - Identify and encourage individuals with mental health and/or
substance use issues to join and benefit from the initiative.
● - Set up and manage an easy-to-use system for applications, keeping
track of participants, and checking how well the program is working
regularly.
● - Keep clear and well-organized records, including messages and
reports, to stay on top of the program.
● - Use social media (if needed) to spread the word and bring in more
participants.
● - Be accessible via phone, text, and Zoom for communication and
coordination.
Qualifications:
● - **Required: Personal experience with mental health and/or
substance use challenges.
● - **Preferred: Strong empathy, active listening skills, and social media
proficiency.
● - A demonstrated ability to stay organized, pay attention to detail, and
achieve goals.
What Success Looks Like:
● - A well-run program that consistently finds participants and keeps
them engaged.
● - Strong, supportive relationships between volunteers and
participants.
● - A smooth system that works well and helps the program grow.
Probationary Period & Back Pay:
The first 90 days of your position will be considered a probationary period,
during which we will assess your performance based on specific goals outlined in the job description, such as participant recruitment, retention, and program management. If you successfully meet these goals, you will be eligible for back pay to reflect the full stipend amount ($200/month) for the duration of the probationary period. Performance evaluations will be conducted regularly to provide feedback and ensure you have the support needed to succeed.
