Position: Social Media Specialist

Location: Remote, US-based organization

Duration: Min 6 months. 5 hours per week

Wevise is a US-based nonprofit founded in 2022. Our mission is to make careers in the technology industry more attainable and create more diverse and inclusive tech communities through equitable access to mentorship, education, and career opportunities. We’re a team of committed volunteers from diverse backgrounds who are passionate about leveling the playing field in tech (and beyond).

Our first program, which launched in June 2023, is a mentorship platform for those looking for personal or professional guidance in the technology industry, with a focus on those from disadvantaged communities or with additional barriers.

We believe in mentoring-so much so that we have brought a paired programming methodology to each of our roles. For every position, there is an expert mentor and an experienced mentee who will collaborate with and learn from the mentor along the way.

Each position is filled by two people (the mentor and mentee) and the requirements for each are described below.

In this role, you will be responsible for creating and posting engaging social media content to educate, entertain, and inform mentees and mentors about the Wevise platform. You should have experience with developing and maintaining social media marketing strategies, using platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram, and creating high-quality content using graphic design programs such as Canva, Photoshop, and Illustrator. The mentee candidate will have a minimum of 2 years. Although these are volunteer positions, the experience and opportunity to work with a startup in the tech industry will be invaluable for your career, and watching your work change lives will be incredibly rewarding!

Responsibilities

  • Create and post motion and still graphic content on social media platforms to educate, entertain, and inform university students about mentoring and the Wevise platform.

  • Develop and adjust marketing strategies as needed, using automation tools to post content in a timely manner.

  • Work with the team to manage our presence on platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram and TikTok.

  • Collaborate with CMO and marketing colleagues to develop and adjust marketing strategies.

  • Communicate and collaborate with team members and the CMO to ensure that deliverables are met.

  • Have fun and be creative in your approach to marketing the Wevise platform and mentoring. Let's change the world together!

Requirements

  • [Mentor] A minimum of an associate degree in a business or marketing-related field; 5+ years of related experience and training.

  • [Mentee] 2+ years of related experience and training

  • A portfolio or past design work that you can share.

  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work well with your mentor/mentee to achieve deliverables.

  • 5-10 hours/week commitment

If you are self-motivated, passionate about mentorship, and have a strong propensity for action, results, and continuous improvement, we want you on our team!

Mission Statement

Our mission is to make careers in the technology industry more attainable through equitable access to mentorship, education, and career opportunities.

Description

Wevise is on a mission to level the playing field in tech. Through direct programming and partnerships with nonprofits supporting underserved and disadvantaged people to enter and advance in the technology industry, we provide access to mentors, training and educational opportunities, and careers.

Our goals:

*Support underserved and disadvantaged people to enter and thrive in the technology industry

*Partner with organizations who need mentorship and career placement programs to complement their main programming, helping them to better serve their beneficiaries

*Support companies in finding the right, often diverse, candidates

Our main service is a free, on-demand mentorship platform that allows people to request mentorship based on specific needs, interests, background, and experience. Mentors and mentees can specify their interest in short, medium, and long-term mentorship.

Mentors choose one or more mentees that resonate with them from a curated list of five mentorship requests. Although the platform is open and free to all, we are focused on supporting underserved and disadvantaged people. Mentors and mentees are matched with people who have overcome similar barriers, such as LGBTQIA+, veteran, first-generation student, person of color, person with a disability, single parent, etc. We also provide custom tags for nonprofit partners so that mentors can mark a preference for mentoring someone from one of those programs.
