Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Idealist.org

Recruiting Organization: Humankind LA

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Humankind LA, formed in 2022, is a non-profit organization that serves the unhoused and adjacent communities in and around Westlake. We recently built the first non-profit Homeless Help Desk in LA, located in MacArthur Park, where we honor our resilient and brave clients by partnering with them to secure housing and set and work toward their goals. Our transformational help desk serves as a fixed point of connection for the many unhoused individuals who do not camp in a set location and, as a result, are not consistently connected to critical support and services. In our innovative space, we do the following: advocate for clients in social services and health settings; provide food and supplies; store valuable documents for safekeeping; facilitate client reconnection and communication with family members; refer people to recovery programs and other resources; offer a safe and quiet place that provides a break from the street; and continue to encourage hope and engagement in everyone moving through this busy area.

ROLE SUMMARY:

This volunteer will identify, write, fulfill and track grants on behalf of Humankind LA, in alignment with short- and long-term budget goals. This individual will have the opportunity to establish the grant management function at our non-profit startup, and report to Humankind LA's founder.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

    • Responsible for grant identification, grant writing, timeline management, need alignment and completion.
    • Oversees all facets of the grant application process, including researching, writing/editing, compiling supporting documents, submitting, and tracking grant proposals from inception to fulfillment.
    • Documents donor data, grant outcomes/feedback
    • Coordinates authorization of agreements, contracts, and promissory notes related to grant funding

QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Highly resourceful, self-starter with strong initiative
    • Some experience in grants writing preferred but not required
    • Ability to convey complex ideas concisely and compellingly
    • Genuine interest in advocating for unhoused individuals and creating positive community change
    • Must join orientation (remote ok) or visit Help Desk in person to best grasp our work

TIME REQUIREMENTS:

This position is an unpaid volunteer role with a 3-month minimum time commitment that has the potential to be extended to a paid role.
