You don't need a cape to be a hero to disadvantaged children in our area. All it takes are good organizational skills, the ability to persuade friends, colleagues and family to donate children's books and a way to deliver the collected books to Reach Out and Read's offices at KU Medical Center. Do that and you will be a super book hero to hundrends of kids across Kansas City!
Book Drive Coordinators of all ages can work on their own or organize a team of volunteers to collect new and gently used children's books that will then be given to at-risk children in one of the 50 Reach Out and Read Kansas City (ROR-KC) safety net pediatric clinics in the KC metro area that serve low income communities.
Great for groups but we also welcome individuals interested in coordinating a drive.

Mission Statement
Reach Out and Read Kansas City makes literacy promotion a standard part of pediatric care so that children grow up with books and enter school ready to read.
Description
Reach Out and Read Kansas City is a pediatric early literacy program serving Kansas City's most vulnerable children. Our program partners with pediatric doctors to make free books available for children in lower-income communities at every well-child visit from birth to five years of age. Reach Out & Read clinic doctors and nurses are trained to advise parents about the importance of reading aloud. By building on the unique relationship between parents and medical providers, Reach Out and Read helps families and communities encourage early literacy skills so children enter school prepared for success.
