Role Overview:
As a Historical and Family History Researcher, you will play a vital role in documenting, organizing, and preserving historical records and genealogical information. Your work will help us provide valuable resources to individuals, families, and researchers seeking to connect with their heritage or learn more about local history.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research using archives, databases, historical documents, and conducting oral histories.
  • Assist individuals in tracing their family lineage or exploring local history.
  • Organize and catalog historical materials, including photographs, letters, and artifacts.
  • Collaborate with our team to develop educational materials, exhibits, and presentations.
  • Provide written reports or summaries of findings for use in publications or displays.

Qualifications:

  • Interest in history, genealogy, or archival work (no formal experience required-training provided).
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with research tools such as Ancestry.com, FamilySearch, or local archives (preferred but not required).

Mission Statement

The mission of the society shall be to celebrate, study, collect, preserve and make accessible material relating to the History of Stone County, Missouri. We will also train volunteers to instruct and assist individuals in researching family roots and local history.

Description

We are reorganizing our archive and artifact storage as we transition from a City of Crane building on loan to the society since 2016 to the building purchased by the society in 2022. The generosity of our members, volunteers and donors helps us keep the doors open and the lights on.
