As an Outdoor Program Instructor, you will be at the heart of Outdoor Life Leadership's mission by providing hands-on survival skills training to young men. This role is crucial in fostering confidence, leadership, and teamwork through immersive outdoor experiences. You'll lead sessions in skills like camping, fire-starting, shelter-building, and nature safety, helping participants apply these lessons to real-world challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead outdoor workshops and activities focused on survival skills, nature safety, and disaster preparedness.
- Teach practical techniques such as fire-starting, shelter construction, and navigation.
- Mentor participants in developing leadership, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities.
- Ensure the safety of all participants by adhering to best practices and safety protocols.
- Inspire confidence in young men by challenging them to push their limits in a supportive environment.
- Assist in planning and setting up outdoor events, including the annual Outdoor Life Expo.
Qualifications:
- Experience in outdoor education, survival skills, or wilderness training.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work with young men in an engaging, motivational, and supportive manner.
- CPR/First Aid certification (preferred).
- Availability to attend in-person sessions and events (primarily outdoors).

Description
Outdoor Life Leadership is a grassroots nonprofit established in 2024 with a clear mission: to empower young men ages 7-17 from underserved communities through transformative outdoor experiences. Our programs are designed to teach vital skills like survival, disaster preparedness, leadership, and economic mobility, offering participants pathways to a successful future in outdoor and emergency service careers.
Our flagship program, Bear n Archers, engages young men in structured, adventure-based learning where they build confidence and resilience while mastering essential outdoor skills. For our older participants, ages 18-24, Bear Captains provides a leadership and volunteerism opportunity that empowers them to mentor younger participants. These young men become role models, fostering teamwork and guiding others to discover their own potential.
With our partnerships, we’ve already achieved notable milestones, including hosting three family camping retreat that brought together eight families for a weekend of learning and connection in nature.
