STEM Canada is a registered not-for-profit global program specializing in an advanced, STEM-based educational curriculum emphasizing the interconnected subject areas of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The STEM program is open to all students from preschool to high school with the mission to deliver top-notch STEM literacy and application, designed to teach students in the STEM fields, yielding globally competitive results.

Position Purpose:

The Volunteer Dean of Medical Sciences - Supplementary and Emerging Medical Fields plays a crucial role in advancing interdisciplinary and emerging areas within medical science. This position involves developing and implementing educational programs in various supplementary fields, training and mentoring volunteer instructors, coordinating activities, and guiding students and faculty in integrating innovative and holistic approaches to healthcare.

Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the medical sciences educational platform.
  • Proven ability to lead and collaborate with a diverse team of professionals and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more supplementary fields such as Palliative Care, Psychiatry, Rehabilitation Medicine, or Health Informatics.
  • Enthusiasm, adaptability, patience, and a positive attitude in an educational setting.
  • Experience in curriculum development, program management, or volunteer training within a medical or educational organization.
  • Minimum of one season or equivalent experience in educational leadership, preferably in healthcare or medical sciences.

Essential Job Functions:

Educational Leadership and Engagement:

  • Lead the planning and implementation of educational programs and virtual learning experiences in specialized medical fields.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and stimulating environment that encourages curiosity and lifelong learning among participants.
  • Collaborate with faculty to align program content with platform objectives, ensuring that programs meet educational and developmental outcomes.

Program Design and Facilitation:

  • Develop curriculum and hands-on learning experiences in emerging medical fields, including areas such as Nutrition, Sports Medicine, Biomedical Research, and Regenerative Medicine.
  • Use interactive methods like simulations, demonstrations, and case studies to enhance understanding and engagement.
  • Adapt content and teaching methods to ensure accessibility and inclusivity across a diverse group of learners.

Volunteer Training and Mentorship:

  • Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to volunteers and faculty, fostering a collaborative and cohesive learning community.
  • Act as a resource for volunteers, offering tools and strategies to enhance participant engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Lead a steering committee to coordinate guest appearances, live events, and special programming.

Well-Being and Safety:

  • Ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where all participants feel valued and respected.
  • Be responsive to the needs of participants, addressing any learning or social-emotional challenges with care and professionalism.
  • Uphold platform policies related to online safety, privacy, and respectful conduct.

Leadership Responsibilities/Tasks:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for guiding and supporting volunteer instructors and staff, ensuring alignment with program goals.
  • Collaborate with HR to equip volunteers with the tools, resources, and guidance they need for success.
  • Assign instructional responsibilities, offering coaching and support to facilitate impactful educational experiences.
  • Organize and lead periodic virtual meetings with volunteers to review progress, celebrate successes, and address challenges.
  • Promptly report any concerns or incidents related to student well-being or safety to the Program Director and collaborate on appropriate interventions.
