Machine-Repair Volunteer at The Talking Book Library

ORGANIZATION: Fresno County Public Library - Central Library

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS) distributes audiobooks and the equipment needed to use them to people who cannot see or handle print materials. For decades individuals and groups have offered their skills to ensure that an ample supply of talking-book machines are available for blind and disabled readers enrolled in the NLS program. They have repaired millions of the machines and saved U.S. taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars!

The Talking Book Library of the Fresno County Public Library is on the look out for volunteers to repair the digital talking-book machines it introduced in 2009 and the cassette machines used for decades before then.

Machine-repair volunteers help adults and children who are blind, visually impaired, or have a physical disability continue to read for information and fun.

Please feel free to reach out to the Fresno County Public Library's Volunteer Services Department for questions or concerns at 559-600-9230!
