Recruiting Organization: Peace Economy Project
Role Summary:
As a Volunteer Board Member, you will provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by the Executive Director, the relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. Serving as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director as they develop and implement the Peace Economy Project’s strategic plan, you will review outcomes and metrics created for evaluating the organization’s impact, and regularly measure its performance and effectiveness using those metrics.
Responsibilities:
Leadership, Governance, and Oversight
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director as they implement Peace Economy Project’s strategic plan.
- Approve the organization’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Contribute to an annual performance evaluation of the Executive Director.
- Assist the Executive Director and board chair in identifying and recruiting other Board Members.
- Represent Peace Economy Project to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization.
- Ensure Peace Economy Project’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities the organization serves.
Fundraising
- Peace Economy Project Board Members will consider the organization a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. So that Peace Economy Project can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, Peace Economy Project expects to have 100% of Board Members make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity.
Board Development
- Board Members are expected to leverage personal relationships and connections to help the fundraising and outreach goals of the organization, identify and secure the financial resources and partnerships necessary for Peace Economy Project to advance its mission.
Qualifications:
- Strong commitment to the mission of the Peace Economy Project.
- Extensive professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector.
- A commitment to and understanding of Peace Economy Project’s beneficiaries, preferably based on experience.
- Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals.
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of Peace Economy Project’s beneficiaries.
