This position entails the following:

  • Making sure to select a team captain, in agreement with the coach, on your team on a weekly basis (a different player each week), and having the player (with a parent's assistance) contacting the players on your team every Wednesday evening. The message to each player shall be to remind them of their scheduled playing time for that Saturday, and the need to have their school weekly progress reports signed by their parent and the home room teacher.
  • Responsible for tracking the leagues three (3) minute per half rule with the attached sheet while on the bench during the game (you'll be tracking the playing time of the OPPOSING team players, NOT your team). You then submit the tracking sheet to the team coordinator, Rebeca Cruz.
  • You MUST sit on the bench with your team the entire duration of the game.
  • Counseling kids should you find academic or behavioral deficiencies noted by heir teachers on the weekly school progress reports; should the deficiency fall below a mark of 5 or less and require resources advise Rebeca Cruz.
  • Collect the weekly school progress reports from every student-athlete at the start of every game and turn in to the scorer's table.

Mission Statement

Liga creates a safe, supportive space that promotes healthy youth development. Our programs bring together athletics, character development, academic support, and opportunities to build strong relationships with peers, family, and community.

Description

We offer fall, winter, and summer basketball leagues, each of which includes up to 32 teams. All players participate in one game per week. They also have the opportunity to participate in a weekly, drop-in clinic where they can develop their skills while building relationships with coaches and peers. In 2020, in response to the pandemic, we launched a track and field program. Due to its popularity, we are sustaining this program as an ongoing offering each spring. Our track and field program engages 50 to 75 youth annually.
