You don’t have to be a super hero to be an advocate, but you do have to make a commitment to the children CASA serves. The Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is a trained volunteer whose role is to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the Effingham County Court System.
How do you know if CASA is a good fit for you? Answer these questions:
- Do you have a heart for children?
- Do you want to make a difference in a child’s life?
- Are you 21 years of age or older?
- Can you give 5-10 hours a month to ensure abused children’s best interests are met?
- Can you make an 18-month commitment?
- Can you pass background checks?
If you answered yes to the above questions, we would love to have you join our mission!
Volunteer Responsibilities Include:
- Actively participate in a 30-hour guided learning training
- Complete an intensive independent investigation of the case
- Consult with your supervisor from the local CASA office
- Deliver Report findings to the Court
- Ensure representation of child’s best interest
- Submit volunteer information monthly

Mission Statement
CASA of Effingham County is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing highly trained volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the Effingham County Circuit Court System. CASA Volunteers work cooperatively with the Effingham County Circuit Court System to ensure prompt delivery of services and to make independent recommendations to the court concerning the child’s well-being.
Description
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is the only volunteer organization that empowers everyday citizens as officers of the court. In an overburdened social welfare system, abused and neglected children often slip through the cracks among hundreds of current cases.
CASA volunteers change that. Appointed by judges, CASA volunteers typically handle just one case at a time-and commit to staying on that case until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. While others may come and go, CASA volunteers provide that one constant that children need in order to thrive.
